CONCLUSION

I went into Hercules thinking it would be an absolute 10/10. My fond memories from watching it in my youth, along with my frequent revisitation of its soundtrack gave me high (if not unrealistic) expectations. While its incredibly well done music and animation was on par with other Disney masterpieces, its massive failure on account of Meg makes it hard to do anything but think of what it could have been. Meg, sadly, is only one byproduct of Disney’s centralization around male characters, and it’s something to be conscious of while watching their older (and occasionally their more recent) films. Despite that one massive, glaring issue, Hercules still stands as one of the greatest animated movies of all time, and was still absolutely one of the best films we’ve watched this term--even if it is a bit conflicted.
